Flora Douglas at home
Wilmot Academy or the Wilmot Academy for Gifted Children is a private school geared towards gifted children in Dallas, Texas. Principal Tom Petersen suggests to George Cooper Sr. and Mary Cooper to send Sheldon Cooper there in Season 1 (1989).
When Sheldon was sent to Wilmot Academy, he was guided by the Douglas family, namely Flora and Elliot Douglas.
The Cooper family struggles to cope without Sheldon at home in the episode where Wilmot is featured (YS 1x10). This results in Sheldon going back home.
Overview[]
Sheldon was sent to Wilmot Academy because Petersen states that the curriculum is not challenging enough for Cooper. When Sheldon gets to the academy, he ironically notices that the Wilmot students are "weird". He asks Mary "Why are they so quiet, are they on medication? "Mary replies "They're smart just like you.". Meanwhile, George Sr. is not a big fan of the academy's uniforms.
Dr. Flora Douglas mentions that Sheldon has a superior intellect and is a delight to have, a fun-loving, and helpful student. Sheldon says that does not sound like him at all.
Shortly after Sheldon is sent to Wilmot Academy, Petersen, and Sheldon's teachers, Mr. Givens, Ms. Ingram, and Ms. McElroy are delighted that they do not have to deal with Sheldon's obnoxiousness. On the other hand, the Cooper family (except Georgie) misses Sheldon's presence. When George Sr. drives to Dallas to pick Sheldon up, Sheldon is happy to go home, but Missy is even happier.
