Simon Maxwell Helberg (born December 9, 1980, Los Angeles, California is an American actor and comedian best known for his role as Howard Wolowitz in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory. He was a member of the recurring cast of comedians on sketch comedy series MADtv from 2002 to 2003 and had a supporting role in the sketch comedy based series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He has appeared in recurring roles in the series Reno 911!, Unscripted, Life on a Stick and Joey.

Helberg was born in Los Angeles, California and is the son of German-born actor Sandy Helberg. He became a black belt in Karate by age 10, inspired by the film "The Karate Kid". He was raised in a Jewish family.
Helberg attended middle and high school at the Crosswords School in Santa Monica, California, along with actor Jason Ritter, who later became his roommate at New York University. He attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he trained at the Atlantic Theater Company. Jason's father John Ritter worked with Kaley on the sitcom "8 Simple Rules".
Helberg is married to actress/filmmaker Jocelyn Towne, They have two children, Adeline (born on May 8th, 2012) and Wilder (born on April 23, 2014).
