Gary O'Brien is a character in Young Sheldon. He made his fortune selling anti-static furniture to laboratories. He was a major donor to East Texas Tech and was interested its continued excellence. He interested in meeting Sheldon Cooper because Sheldon is a notable student. At the dinner, he talks to Sheldon and about everything. At one point, he mentions he likes to talk scientist to scientist; this causes Sheldon to factually point out he is a furniture seller and everyone just wants his money. Afterwards, he was impressed by the honesty expressed by Sheldon; as a result, he gives lots of money to the college, which brings enormous joy to President Linda Hagemeyer. Grant is called by Sheldon and Dr Sturgis about a potential computer mainframe. He reveals he is out of country to dodge any IRS actions. (Ruthless, Toothless and a Week of Bed Rest)
