Dr. Barrett is a researcher in Young Sheldon, specializing in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and applications to radiocarbon dating. She is the presenter for a lecture on carbon dating at the Natural Science Museum of Texas and is surprised by the turnout, especially by the presence of a young contingent in the form of Sheldon and Paige. After Paige expresses interest in the subject matter following reading one of Dr. Barrett's AMS publications, she is impressed and poses questions to the duo for the bemusement of herself and the other attendees. With a somewhat perfunctory air in her reaction to Sheldon's reply for his reason of attendance, she ascertains the essence of carbon dating as the use of the 5,730 year half-life of carbon-14 as a geochronometer from his seemingly more cerebral companion, before Sheldon takes turn to inject humor with his suggestion that it was also utilized to determine the age of his grandmother.
