Cool Ranch Doritos

In Sheldon's terms, cocaine is to Cool Ranch Doritos as Sherlock Holmes is to Officer Hernandez.

Series History[]

Sheldon is robbed on his train trip and finds himself in Kingman, Arizona in a train station with no possessions and no pants. After taken to the local police station, his case is handled by an Officer Hernandez. While Sheldon sits in front of the officer's desk, Sheldon doesn't feel that he is concentrating enough on finding his possessions. Sheldon lectures him on the detective methods of Sherlock Holmes. "Eliminate all other factors, and the one which remains must be the truth." Sheldon asks him if he has tried that to which the officer says that he hasn't. Sheldon tells him that maybe he should since there have been a lot of books named Sherlock Holmes and none named after him.

Later Sheldon suggests that he try using cocaine to sharpen his mind like Sherlock Holmes did. Then looking at the officer's snack he hopes that his Cool Ranch Doritos will do just as well.

Background[]

Doritos were originally made at the Casa de Fritos at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Using surplus tortillas, the company-owned restaurant cut them up and fried them (as in traditional Mexican chips called totopos) and added basic seasoning, resembling the Mexican chilaquiles, but in this case being dry. Frito-Lay noticed their popularity. Alex Foods in 1964, the provider of many items for Casa de Fritos at Disneyland, produced the chips for a short time regionally, before it was overwhelmed by the volume, and Frito-Lay moved the production in-house to its Tulsa plant. "Doritos" were released nationwide in 1966, the first tortilla chip to be launched nationally in the United States. The name derives from the Mexican Spanish doradito, meaning "turned golden or crisp".
