Dale Ballard is a recurring character in the spin-off show Young Sheldon. He owns a Sporting Goods store and was Missy Cooper's baseball coach. Dale is the on-off boyfriend of Meemaw in Young Sheldon; they remain a couple by the end of the series, but Dale does not make an appearance in The Big Bang Theory.
Biography[]
Dale was at Meemaw's place one day. She asks him if she can borrow the truck because she crashed hers, leaving her immobile. He refuses. (The Geezer Bus and a New Model for Education)
He strikes a relationship with Meemaw. When he finds out about an illegal gambling room run by Meemaw at the back of the laundromat Medford Wash, he asks his police officer friend about it. Since he was running for sheriff, the friend refrained from arresting Meemaw.
Dale was working at his store when George comes in asking for help with $2500 in bail money. He agrees but wants to comet take a picture of Meemaw in jail. They drive 8 hours to the border. He pays the bail, goes in and takes a picture of Meemaw. He drives her home; on the way there, they talk and says she probably has to pay him back. He had joking asked if she had to join any gangs in jail. He wants Meemaw to consider it a gift. When Meemaw suggests “making it up” at home, he is a bit surprised at it and says it probably be fair if it was $500 per “roll in the hay”. Dale comes to work one day and wakes up George as he slept. He talks about women and what happened. (Passion's Harvest and a Sheldocracy)
Dale is called to the Laundromat and casino. Meemaw proposes to him that they expand the casino operation into the store next door by adding video poker machines. They drive to Biloxi, Mississippi and get machines from a man named Dennis. Dennis later meets them in a restaurant called Grits and Bits where he attempted to shake down the couple. Dale talked to him as a distraction and later knocked him out. (A Resident Advisor and the Word 'Sketchy')
Dale comes into the home of Meemaw and sees her making food. He wonders if the tuna salad is the source of the awful smell, to which he is told that came from CeeCee. He tells her he will not change a diaper; in fact, despite him being a father and grandfather, he has never changed a diaper in his life and that the first diaper he’s ever gonna change is his. He is at the gambling room and walks into the cleaners when he sees Pastor Jeff Difford getting his clothes cleaned; going back to Meemaw, he is unsure what to do as he had a prior antagonistic relationship with Meemaw in recent months. Dale later helps Meemaw bring people into the gambling room due to the tornado damaging the laundromat, where Jeff led prayer session. Later, While Dale and Meemaw is driving the pickup truck to look at the mess, they see Meemaw’s house destroyed, Meemaw notices the money, Dale and the Cooper family help Meemaw pick up the money, George welcomes Meemaw to stay but Meemaw turns it down saying that she was sure that Dale was gonna offer, Dale said that he was gonna offer but he’s just taking a break. While Meemaw lives with Dale, Dale jokes about how she didn’t get tornado insurance, Meemaw gets offended and lives with the Coopers, Dale tries to make up for it by bringing flowers to Meemaw, but Missy tells him that Meemaw isn’t there, Dale tells Missy about what he did and drinks coffee with her, Meemaw comes in and Dale apologizes Later, Dale is at the dinner table but Missy is surprised that he’s there after all the things going on between him and Meemaw. Dale will reappear again in A Proper Wedding and Skeletons in the Closet.
