Carol Lee, Ph.D., is a character in Young Sheldon. She had earned a PhD in physics from Berkeley and worked at IBM's Watson Research Center as lead of the materials research group. She is appointed director of the recently founded Experimental Cosmology Center at East Texas Tech by President Linda Hagemeyer to work as team lead with Sheldon Cooper, Grant Linkletter, and John Sturgis; when she meets them, she mentions she has raised children, so she may have some “foresight” in dealing with unruly people. She suggests to mount a radio telescope on the roof to get a good read on the fluctuations in radiation and resolves dissension in the team when picking the sector of the sky to be scanned for meaningful data. She becomes frustrated at Sheldon for his social skills, which she says in Mandarin, and thereafter speaks to Linkletter and Sturgis, in French and Mandarin, respectively, about whether Sheldon has an off switch; they state he is always on. Subsequently, Sheldon indicates his knowledge of Klingon, for which she takes special note.

In her office, Sheldon talks to her, and suggests the option of setting up several telescopes in an array, but is denied by her. Sheldon thought she was using feminine wiles, but she says she is doing her best for the project. That night, she is in President Hagemeyer's office. They drink and talk about dealing with men and their successes and struggles. She mentions people always wanted to sleep with her, there were 3 other women in the major, and some had sabotaged her projects. Accordingly, she eventually realized, as an experimental physicist, she can build anything she wants to protect her work. Implementing a trap she designed, she foils an attempt by the prodigy to reprogram the coordinates for the radio telescope when he tries to hack into her computer.
