Bill Gates, born William Henry Gates III on October 28, 1955 and is an American businessman, author, humanitarian and principal founder of the Microsoft Corporation where he has held the positions of chairman, CEO and chief software architect. In 1975, Gates and Paul Allen launched Microsoft which became the world's largest PC software company. He left the management of the company in January 2000, but he remained as chairman and chief software architect for himself. Since 2006 he began full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was established in 2000. From 1995 to 2017 he was listed by Forbes as the world's wealthiest person until has been surpassed by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, who had an estimated net worth of US$90.6 billion at the time.
