"Babies, Lies and a Resplendent Cannoli" is the eighteenth episode of season five of the American sitcom Young Sheldon. The episode aired on April 14, 2022.

Summary[]

Sheldon copes with the death of a hero. Also, Missy wants to babysit, and Georgie struggles with his big secret.[1]

Extended Plot[]

The episode continues from the previous episode where Mandy talks to Georgie about her pregnancy. She shows him the positive pregnancy test and they both freak out. She says she never was knocked up by a 17-year-old; she isn't reassured that he will be 18 in March.

Mary asks George what he does, and that he is working two jobs; he is afraid he will lose his coaching job and shrink to one job at Dale's store. Sheldon walks into room and is sad that his favourite author Issac Asimov had died. George asks who he is, so Sheldon tells them about his most popular writings. George said he still has no clue who he is and leaves. Georgie goes to Dale and tells Dale about Mandy's pregnancy. He asks to help as he has yet to tell his parents. Dale is a bit shocked. Dale asks if the kid is his and if Mandy had cheated. Sheldon talks to MeeMaw about his hero's death. He reminds her that his Pop Pop liked him and liked his writings. Meemaw retorts if she was only interested in books with hot shirtless men with long hair on the covers.

Missy calls her mother Mary if Pastor Jeff can let her babysit his children. Missy claims she will like it, but Missy thinks it could be easy money. Mary is reluctant and unconvinced. Sheldon is working with Dr. Sturgis in the laboratory when Dr. Linkletter walks in, upset over the death of Issac Asimov. He read enormous amounts of his writings and had invited the word robotics. Dr. Sturgis is not sure who he is, so the guys talk to him about his books. They decide to do a book club in his honor.

Georgie goes back to talk to Mandy in her room and asks if the baby is really his. She did not like the question and shutus the door in his face, who gos back to Dale. Georgie tells him tat she will keep the child and will marry her.

Dale tries to convince him to talk to his parents. Georgie imagining George freaking out and tearing apart the store while he's here.

Sheldon tells Meemaw about the book club and asks her to join. She doesn't want to, but he ends up guilting her into it by mentioning his grandfather's liking for books.

Missy calls Pastor Jeff and offers to Babysit for them while he and Robin have a date night; he seems uninterested but she convinces that he is wrong. She suggest the pair go to watch Beethoven, a movie about a dog. George asks Dale about his relationship with Georgie. Dale says Georgie thinks they are close, but they aren't. He says Georgie will talk to him soon.

Missy calls Mary out for lying to Pastor Jeff. This leads to a responsibility argument and Mary finally agreeing to let her babysit–but only if she calls if she has problems. The book club begins with everyone discussing the book, but then talking about MeeMaw's recent breakup with Dale. Dr. Linkletter uses this as an excuse to hit on her and does a dramatic reading of the book, hoping to impress her.

Missy leaves for her babysitting job. Mary wishes her luck and offers to have her bring the baby over. Missy thinks this would be irresponsible and leaves. Dale tells Georgie he needs to talk to his dad. Georgie is not ready, but Dale tells him that George is hurt that he didn't talk to him. At that moment, George walks in and Dale hangs up, pretending he was talking to his mom.

The two people continue to do dramatic readings of their selected book, while hitting on MeeMaw. On the way home, MeeMaw says that if nothing else, it helped her remember her late husband. The doctors, on the other hand, decide to come up with ground rules to deal with Meemaw as she can be a lot.

Georgie comes home looking for his father. Mary asks if she can help him. Before she can say anything Missy comes home, all messy from babysitting. She says she will never do it again and Mary was right. She goes to take a shower and a bath.

MeeMaw comes home to messages Sturgies and Linkletter, who have made them in jest.

The episode ends with Georgie revealing to George that Mandy is pregnant.
