"A Computer, a Plastic Pony, and a Case of Beer" is the twelfth episode of the first season of the American sitcom Young Sheldon. The episode aired on January 18, 2018.

Summary[]

Sheldon asks for a computer and unknowingly sparks a heated argument between Mary and George Sr. over the family's finances.[1]

Extended Plot[]

Sheldon is at Radio Shack playing with a computer. He tells his mom that they should buy one. Mary says no. Later, Mary is sitting watching TV with her family when she brings up Sheldon wanting a computer. George says that Sheldon should get an afterschool job and save up for one. Meemaw offers to buy the computer for Sheldon and that they can pay her back. George says no that he can take care of his family.

Later, George and Mary talk about it again before going to bed. Mary says she has some money saved up that she could use to buy the computer. George is upset because she has secret money. The next day, still fighting, Mary tells the kids to pack a bag that they're going to Connie's to stay for a while. Claiming that the parents need a break from each other. George and Georgie stay behind. Georgie says that he never wants to get married. George makes a bet with him that he'll be married by the time he's 25. Georgie shakes on it. Adult Sheldon tells us that he got married at 19 and has never paid his dad.

Missy is worried that their parents are getting a divorce. Meemaw asks Mary how long she plans to stay. She says for a while and that now she definitely has to buy Sheldon this computer since they fought over it. Georgie tells his Dad that he should just go apologize. George says that sets a bad precedent. Georgie is mad at Sheldon and blames him for their parents fighting. Mary buys Sheldon the computer. Sheldon asks the computer how he can help fix his parent's marriage. Mary goes back to the house to pick up clothes and runs into George.

George apologizes and the two go for a walk to talk a little. Each of the Coopers use the computer for different reasons: Georgie to hit on the A.I. and Missy for the gambling games. Except for Connie who can't figure out how it works and tries to speak through the mouse like a microphone.
